Yesterday, our campaign kicked off a text messaging campaign to get the word out about what we’re doing, using what we believed to be a well-regarded text messaging vendor, CallHub. The campaign was set to send text messages throughout the day, but to stop sending those messages at 8pm.
This morning, I awoke to find that the campaign ran all night, and that people were woken up by our text messages in the middle of the night. That was definitely not the plan.
I immediately stopped the texting campaign (it was still running when I woke up at 5 this morning), and we’re reaching out to CallHub to see what the heck happened. We’ve triple-checked the campaign settings, and there’s no reason that we can tell for the glitch.
Still, at the end of the day, the mistake falls on us, and I personally accept responsibility. I’m in charge of my campaign, and I approved the use of CallHub. I also didn’t ask anyone on the team to double-check that the texts stopped when they were supposed to.
To those of you who were woken up in the middle of the night: I am very sorry for the wake-up, and extend my deepest regrets. I will make sure something like this doesn’t happen again, and will update this post once we learn what happened over at CallHub.
